Mixed Media on Paper
6′ x 30′
Feb 20 – 26, 2016
Join us for an “Against Gentrification Paint-In Day!”
We are making a 6-foot by 30-foot-long collective mural to express the community’s feeling about gentrification, rent hikes and evictions in Boston’s Chinatown that threaten the displacement of longtime residents and local businesses. This paper mural is to join art projects from other Boston communities facing similar gentrification and displacements. Part will be put on display at the new EMW Gallery Presents “The People’s First!” at 934 Mass. Ave., Cambridge starting FRIDAY, MARCH 4TH at 8pm (https://www.facebook.com/events/1067632206632841/) – and, possibly later, at other places around Boston.
WHO IS INVITED: Anyone who has a passion about the importance of communities and neighborhoods, who has feelings against gentrification and its harms, and who believes that art can give people a voice to express their ideas and feelings. Please bring your thoughts, words, photos, pre-planned graphic images, poems, essays, etc. that can be enlarged for all to view. Creative visions, broad strokes and messy cloths are recommended. No prior artistic skill is necessary.
WHAT WILL WE PROVIDE: a 6’x30’ brown-paper wall, paint, colors, brushes, chalk, glue, printer for images or selfies, copy machine for enlargements, some technical help and support, fun, music and enthusiastic encouragement.
